LinkedIn IHMWest Midlands landlord Housing Plus has named board member Andrew Burns as its new group chair #UKhousing

The appointment comes a year after the 19,000-home landlord joined forces with The Wrekin Housing Group to become one of the biggest housing associations in the region.

Mr Burns has taken on the role following Catherine Dass’ retirement after eight years leading the board of the Shropshire and Staffordshire-based housing association.

He takes on the role as the 33,000-home A-rated provider sets its sights on building 1,000 homes per year, alongside investing £55m in its current homes over the next five years.

Mr Burns, who joined the group’s board four years ago after previously serving as an independent member of its audit and risk committee, said he is “delighted” to have been named chair.

He said: “As I look to the future, I’m excited by the opportunities that we have in front of us.

“We will continue to be focused on delivering on the ambition we have for the group, and most importantly our customers, as we create places people are proud to call home.”

He added: “It’s great to have picked up the baton from Catherine and I wish her every success with her next steps.”

Wayne Gethings, group chief executive, commented: “Exactly one year on from our merger, this announcement is a big milestone for us as a group.

“I am looking forward to working with Andrew, and the rest of the board, to continue to deliver great services for our customers and communities, to reinforce the resilience of our organisation, be a great employer and to make a real difference in our region.”
