A large Northern landlord has launched an academy programme to drive career development for its current and prospective employees.
Together Housing, which manages over 38,000 homes, has introduced Together Academy to support its 1,500 staff in and around Lancashire, West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire.
The programme will use a tailored approach to provide employee development, addressing their needs before, during and after recruitment.
Nigel Jones, group director of people at Together, said: “Through the Together Academy, Together Housing is shaping a well-rounded, future-ready workforce, to develop people professionally and personally.
“Our culture prioritises continuous learning and growth, ensuring that every colleague can reach their full potential and contribute to the success of our Together Housing team.”
Inside Housing’s Housing Hires campaign aims to promote the social housing sector as a good place to work, and supports people to find and develop careers at housing associations and councils.
The landlord’s academy follows a three-step plan to develop a “skilled and confident workforce”. The first stage, pathways to employment, outlines ways prospective employees or individuals can seek general employment advice.
This part of the programme focuses on young people aged 16-24 and supports them through development plans in collaboration with local businesses. It offers opportunities to explore various roles, gain work experience and build the confidence necessary for career progression.
Working in partnership with Newground Together, an independent charity that is part of the group, individuals are provided with essential employability skills through workshops, mentoring and digital training.
The second step focuses on training and development at Together and comprises a robust induction programme to ensure new employees feel welcomed and ready to succeed.
This stage also includes apprenticeships where individuals gain hands-on experience and qualifications in trades, business, housing and digital roles, offering opportunities for career growth.
The academy’s final strand is aimed at employees who are looking to develop their skills further or take on new leadership roles. This step provides a range of tailored programmes, including leadership development, degree apprenticeships, professional training, internships and career progression.
Mr Jones added: “Much of what the academy seeks to achieve already exists within the organisation, and by bringing these elements together, we can offer current and prospective employees an overview of the opportunities available to them at Together Housing, illustrating the value of development at all stages of career pathways.”
